Electric gates are brilliant right up until they stop. Then the car's stuck on the road, the delivery can't get in, or the gate sits wide open all night. Whatever yours is doing, I'll come out, find the fault and fix it.
I'm Adrian, the Gate Guy, and I've been repairing electric gates for 25 years. I work from 127 Silverbridge Road, just outside Newry, and I repair gates of all the major brands, whoever installed them.

Faults I fix every week
- Gate won't open – no response to the remote, keypad or intercom. See electric gate won't open.
- Gate won't close, or opens again – usually photocells or safety edges. See gate won't close and diagnosing issues with electric gate sensors.
- Dead after a storm or power cut – tripped supplies, blown fuses and damaged boards. See not working after a power cut.
- Grinding, clunking or straining – worn gearboxes, dry hinges and failing motors. See noisy electric gates.
- Dropped or dragging gates – worn hinges and moved posts. See sagging or misaligned gates.
- Remotes and keypads – lost pairing, dead remotes, replacements. See gate remote not working.
- Intercoms – no sound, no picture, or the gate won't open from the handset. See gate intercom problems.
- Motors and control boards – water damage, lightning, failed components. See gate motor and control board repairs.
- Sliding gates – worn wheels, damaged racks and tracks full of grit.
- Hydraulic motors – leaks, loss of pressure and slow movement.
Brands I repair
Beninca, CAME, FAAC, BFT, Nice, SEA, Gibidi, Allmatic, V2, Key Automation and Chamberlain LiftMaster, plus DEA System and Fadini, which I also install. See gate repairs by brand.
Not sure what you've got? Send me a photo of the motor or the control box and I'll tell you.
How I repair your gate
- Tell me what's happening. A call, text or WhatsApp. A short video of the gate trying to move tells me a lot.
- I find the fault. On site, with the right test kit. I look for the real cause, not just the symptom.
- You get a price before I start. No surprises.
- I fix it and test it. I check the safety devices and run the gate through its full cycle before I leave.
I carry the common parts – photocells, remotes, capacitors, fuses and batteries – so a lot of repairs are done on the first visit. Where a part has to be ordered, I'll tell you how long it'll take and make the gate safe in the meantime.
Repairing gates around Newry
From the Silverbridge Road I'm out across Newry city every week, and across the villages and towns around it: Bessbrook, Camlough, Meigh, Forkhill, Jonesborough and Crossmaglen in South Armagh; Warrenpoint, Rostrevor, Burren and Mayobridge towards the Mournes; Donaghmore, Poyntzpass and Jerrettspass to the north; and over the border to Omeath, Carlingford and Dundalk. See all the areas I cover.
Gates around here take a hammering. Long country lanes mean long cable runs, the Mournes and Slieve Gullion bring the storms, and gates near Carlingford Lough live in salty air. I know what that does to motors and control boards, and I know which parts last.
Repair or replace?
Most gates are worth repairing. But if a motor is obsolete and parts can't be found, or the gate itself is past saving, I'll tell you honestly rather than keep patching it. Read repair or replace? to see how I weigh it up. If new gates do make more sense, I fit those too, and you'll find them on my main site, Electric Gates Newry.
Safe as well as working
A repaired gate has to be safe, not just moving. After every repair I check the photocells, safety edges and the manual release, and I won't leave a gate running if its safety devices aren't working. If yours has none at all, I'll explain what's needed.
Before you call
Some things you can safely check yourself: the power, dirty photocells and flat remote batteries. My electric gate troubleshooting guides walk you through them. Please don't open up the control box or bypass a safety device – that's a job for an engineer.
After the repair
Most of the breakdowns I see could have been caught at a service. Once your gate's working again, think about a yearly check – see electric gate maintenance.
